Help the Next Generation of Military Kids

Why Your Involvement Matters

Growing up in a military family has unique challenges — frequent moves, parental deployments, reintegrations, transitions, and sometimes grief. As adult alumni of that experience, you’re in a powerful position to give back. You understand the resilience, the transitions, and the need for connection. By helping today’s military kids, you ensure they don’t feel alone and build stronger foundations for their future.

At Alumni Crew we believe in helping the next generation thrive — and there are many meaningful, accessible ways you can plug in.

How YOU Can Make a Difference

Here are some practical ideas and suggestions — pick what fits your season of life, skills, and availability.
  • Donate to trusted organizations:
    • Consider supporting The Comfort Crew for Military Kids (CCMK). They deliver “Comfort Kits” that help children through deployments, reintegration, injury/trauma, and grief in military families.
    • Make a one-time gift, set up a monthly donation, or contribute towards a specific program (Comfort Kits, Comfort Crew Academy, or Alumni Crew).
    • Share or match donations within your network or organization — your influence as an alumnus can amplify impact.
  • Volunteer your time and expertise
    • CCMK and similar organizations offer volunteer opportunities such as building kits, packing boxes, helping with events, or providing outreach. For example, CCMK has hosted service/volunteer projects for companies across the country.
    • Use your personal or professional skills to support military-kids programs: mentoring, tutoring, virtual meet-ups, peer groups, leadership workshops.
    • Offer time locally at military installations, schools on base, or community organizations working with military families: you could host an alumni-panel, run a small group session, or support a transition event.
  • Leverage your alumni identity to advocate & connect
    • Share your story as a military kid-turned-alumnus: your journey can inspire younger kids living similar experiences. Feature your story in Alumni Crew communications or social posts.
    • Facilitate introductions: Are you connected with a military-family support group, school on base, or school counselor? Offer to connect Alumni Crew or CCMK resources.
    • Organize a fundraising or “kit-building” event through Alumni Crew: invite fellow alumni, local businesses, or community groups to donate, build kits, or host a service day.
  • Stay informed & share resources
    • Keep up with developments in military-family support: what are current challenges (e.g., deployments, reintegration, mental health)?
    • Share resources, webinars, or articles through Alumni Crew that young military kids (or their parents) need — e.g., on resiliency, transitions, mental health, relocation.
    • Encourage your peer-network: even a short post to say “I’ve been where you are” can help a younger military kid feel seen and connected.

Getting Started — Your First 3 Steps

Pick One Action

Choose one of the ideas above that fits your schedule (e.g., donate once, sign up for one volunteer event, share your story).

Schedule it

Mark on your calendar — for example, register with CCMK for a volunteer session; draft a social-post with your alumni story; set up a monthly gift.

Invite One Friend

Extend the impact by bringing another Alumni Crew member with you or asking them to donate/build-with you. Small groups = bigger ripple.

Why This Matters for Alumni Crew

As an adult who grew up in a military family, you’re a bridge. You’ve experienced the transitions, the community, the unique strengths — and the unique stressors. By engaging now, you help ensure the next generation has access to resources, peer support, and a map of what’s ahead. In doing so, you also deepen your own connection, give back meaningfully, and reinforce the “crew” part of Alumni Crew.

Together, we move from “I was a military kid” to “I’m supporting military kids” — and that makes all the difference.
